Centerpoint Medical Center’s Minimally Invasive & Robotic Surgery Institute now has the da Vinci® Surgical System, which can be used for a range of minimally invasive procedures in urology, gynecology and general surgery.
The da Vinci System mimics the movements of a surgeon’s hand and enables highly magnified visualization inside the body and greater precision while making it easier for surgeons to operate using small incisions.
This innovation results in many potential patient benefits, including less risk of infection, blood loss, significantly less pain, shorter hospital stays and faster recovery times.
Da Vinci Prostatectomy – the removal of the prostate gland to treat prostate cancer – is today the #1 treatment option for prostate cancer. Given its dramatic adoption rate by urologists since its introduction in 2001, this approach has already surpassed open surgery, which performed with large incisions, to become the most-often performed approach to prostate cancer surgery in the U.S.
Gynecologists also have adopted the da Vinci Surgical System for a range of gynecologic surgeries including hysterectomy and myomectomy.
