Centerpoint Medical Center November 17, 2015

Today HCA Midwest Health announces Centerpoint Medical Center, along with six other HCA Midwest Health hospitals serving the Greater Kansas City region, has received Top Performer recognition by The Joint Commission. Centerpoint Medical Center is being recognized for achieving quality thresholds of heart attack, heart failure, pneumonia, surgical care, immunization and perinatal care.

In addition to Centerpoint Medical Center, the other HCA Midwest Health hospitals named Top Performer on Key Quality Measures® by The Joint Commission, America’s leading accreditor of healthcare organizations, include Belton Regional Medical Center, Lafayette Regional Health Center, Lee’s Summit Medical Center, Menorah Medical Center, Overland Park Regional Medical Center and Research Medical Center. HCA Midwest Health is Kansas City’s leading healthcare provider.

The seven hospitals are being recognized by The Joint Commission based on data reported about evidence-based clinical processes that are shown to improve care for certain conditions, including heart attack, heart failure, pneumonia, surgical care, children’s asthma, inpatient psychiatric services, stroke, tobacco use, substance use, venous thromboembolism, immunization, and perinatal care.

“Excellent health care is what all patients expect and deserve,” says M.L. Lagarde III, President, HCA Midwest Health. “HCA Midwest Health physicians and employees strive to care for every patient using the best evidence-based care. We’re honored to have seven ¬¬hospitals included on this distinguished list. This distinct recognition indeed proves we are being true to our Mission: “Above all else, we are committed to the care and improvement of human life.”

The HCA Midwest Health hospitals are among few hospital systems in the U.S. earning the distinction of Top Performer on Key Quality Measures for attaining and sustaining excellence in accountability measure performance. The ratings are based on an aggregation of accountability measure data reported to The Joint Commission during the 2014 calendar year.

Centerpoint Medical Center is being recognized for achieving these quality thresholds for heart attack, heart failure, pneumonia and surgical care for the third consecutive year. It is also being recognized for achieving quality thresholds in immunization and perinatal care.

“We are extremely pleased to have once again received this recognition from The Joint Commission,” says David Williams, Chief Executive Officer of Centerpoint Medical Center. “The physicians and staff at Centerpoint Medical Center are dedicated to positive patient outcomes through evidence-based care processes. When focus is directed entirely on the patient, notable accomplishments can be achieved that result in accreditations. It’s an honor to have the standard of care we provide at Centerpoint Medical Center recognized on a national level.”

To be a 2014 Top Performer, hospitals had to meet three performance criteria based on 2014 accountability measure data, including: Achieving cumulative performance of 95 percent or above across all reported accountability measures; achieving performance of 95 percent or above on each and every reported accountability measure where there were at least 30 denominator cases; and having at least one core measure set that had a composite rate of 95 percent or above, and (within that measure set) all applicable individual accountability measures had a performance rate of 95 percent or above.

“Belton Regional Medical Center, Centerpoint Medical Center, Lafayette Regional Health Center, Lee’s Summit Medical Center, Menorah Medical Center, Overland Park Regional Medical Center, Research Medical Center and all the Top Performer hospitals have demonstrated an exceptional commitment to quality improvement and they should be proud of their achievement,” says Mark R. Chassin, M.D., FACP, M.P.P., M.P.H., President and Chief Executive Officer, The Joint Commission. “Delivering the right treatment in the right way at the right time is a cornerstone of high-quality health care. I commend the efforts of Centerpoint Medical Center for their excellent performance on the use of evidence-based interventions.”
